A fierce and fearless performer since elementary school, Lara was thrilled at first to be accepted into George Brown Theatre School. Things quickly changed for her on the first day of class in which she was branded by her acting teacher with the degrading label “Always a bridesmaid; never a bride.” After two years of hard work and high tuition, Lara was dropped from the program for reasons still unclear. Some 12 years later, after retraining in a second career and narrowly defeating a rare cancer, Lara discusses the long-term impacts of her expulsion.
